Mails that Might be of Help

Hi All,

I just am posting the mails which I replied for certain queries asked to me. This is just a way to help all the aspirants and not to hurt anyone's feelings:)

1. Hello
I am a student of Btech Biotechnology 3rd year (6th semester).
Can you please tell me where can I do my summer training this year
I mailed the scientists at IGIB but there was no reply. I personally visited there but I wasn't allowed to enter.
I want to do training in Microbiology.
I want to do it somewhere near Delhi or Noida....etc

My Reply:

Good that you have a very heavy interest for summer training....u will easily get summer internship.
I will tell you my story ..i tried for summer internship in march end and got it in april...so no worry.
Follow these steps

1. Apply to different scientists and even institutes offices through email and hard copies....dont expect any reply this is for microbiology
2. Apply at different cities around delhi like Chandhigarh, noida etc
3. Apply in different areas of biology....donot restrict to Microbiology(let this be your final option)
4. Try at different cities in India

Institutes where you can try

1.IGIB (already u tried)
2.iCGEB
3.IMTECH
4. Delhi unverisity
5. NIMR
6. NBPGR
7. JNU
and many more if you search with patience

Please have patience and try to sort out possiblieties and finally you will be the winner of an internship.

One more time have patience...and do write a coverup mail or you interests or research ideas or any other like SOP along woth your resume when u mail it to the scientist.

So with this mail you should understand that for a summer internship u might get lucky at the first instance or it may take an quite long time.....the only mantra is have ample patience....scientists and guides are very good people and are human beings

2. I am doing M.E. Biotech in BITS pilani Goa campus. In your blog i came across some institutes offering summer internships. How about RGCB?. In their website they havent called for summer training yet? Is it worth paying 10,000 Rs?

My Reply:

Here is the link for the summer training at this institute.....
http://www.rgcb.res.in/admission.html
I feel its worth doing but before that you as a M.E student can easily avail training or internship without any fee. Why cant u try at NIO or NCAOR Vasco. At NIO u have a biotech wing also, if you want to do at anyother institute in India then just ping me .

3.im a b.tech 2nd yr student n want to do two months training in june
july.plz tell me abt institute providing training at chandigarh.

My Reply: Good to see a career related query after a long time in my mail box.
Getting to the point you didnot mention which branch your in ,but i will take it for granted that u are a biotech student
As you might be aware of there is a wonderful institute in chandighar IMTECH which is premier in research , they directly dont take Btech but take M.Sc if i am not wrong(any just check the site). If you want to do a internship this is the right time.Apply to the scientists in this institute with your interests and resume.Write a covering letter and let them know your asppirations and goals and also give your research ideas.Scientists reply they are good and great people, i got reply during my Btech.
Also you can approach this institute through IAS(Indian academy of science) by giving your first prefernce to the scientists in IMTech Chandighar, through this IAS u get even two months stipend. If there is time apply now or apply again in third year and also check for your final year.

so all the best

Thank you

Summer training continued -1

Before I go further....i will let you know some important things and tips about Summer trainings and Internships.

Good things to know about....

1. students generally carry out summer trainings between the months of may and august of every year.

2.There is not need to pay and carry out any summer training program in India unless n until you feel it as worthy. For example if we take the case of our top biotech research institute RGCB,Trivandrum it offers training for selected candidates for which it charges about 10,000 rs which i feel as worth paying.I say no need to pay because there are plenty of research institutes and universities all over India for any field of science and technology. Government encourages scientist and students for summer internships and also allocates certain funds.

3. For summer training one should be proactive and should apply in their 1st,2nd,3rd,4th years of their bachelor degree between the months of sept-jan of every year.

4. You are never late for applying, you can even get in the month of April or may but your approach towards the scientist or the institute really matters.

5. Students learn a lot during these internship like new techniques, new equipment, meet different kinds of students from different institutes and regions, chance to attend exciting seminars, workshops, meet great scientists, access to innumerable literature (like research papers, international n national publications, online access to literature, phd works etc.).

6. Also one can get a chance to differentiate between actual research enivornment and college environment.

Other things to know(say some disadvantages).....

1. You may lose interest in the normal way of college teaching and will be more inclined towards research after summer internship.

2. Some rare chances that you dont like your guide(scientist are refered such) or the research work can happen.

3. One more thing just concentrate on the work first two week and try to finalize your research topic and then try to look for other things like roaming out or sightseeing(if you are new to that place).

If I forgot any thing i will edit this particular post.....so until then keep rocking and all the very best
